🎃 As autumn settles in, we say goodbye to summer’s sweetness and welcome the cozy spirit of fall. The evenings grow quieter, the light turns golden, and the air carries that familiar crispness of the season’s change.
Join me as I make meringue ghosts by candlelight and craft Halloween decorations from cheesecloth and cotton rope.
Around the house, little signs of the new season appear: flickering candles, dried flowers, and the last fruits from summer’s harvest.
It’s a slow evening of creating and preparing our home for autumn — a gentle pause to notice beauty in transition, and to celebrate the comfort of small rituals.
🎃 Slow living, family moments, and the art of simple joys.

🎃 Meringue Ghost Recipe from Herbs and Flour Blog (with a few of my own changes):
2 egg whites at room temperature
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Black icing for decorations
1. Preheat oven to 250F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, whip the egg whites on medium speed until frothy.
3. Add the cream of tartar and increase the speed to medium-high.
4. With the mixer running, slowly add the sugar, about 1 teaspoon at a time.
5. Continue beating until stiff peaks form, about 8 minutes.
6. Add the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.
7. Transfer the meringue into a piping bag fitted with a wide, round tip. Hold the bag straight above a parchment-lined baking sheet and pipe a large dollop to form the base. Slightly lift the bag and squeeze out a slightly smaller dollop on top, then repeat once more for an even smaller dollop to create a pointed top. Continue with the remaining meringue.
8. Bake on the middle rack for about 40 minutes, or until the meringues are dry on the outside. Let them cool completely on the baking sheet before gently peeling them off the parchment.
Pro Tip: To prevent cracking, leave the oven door slightly open while the meringues cool slowly.
9. Once cooled, use a black icing to draw the eyes and mouth on each ghost.
