The Agni Parthene (Greek: Ἁγνὴ Παρθένε, English: O Virgin Pure) is a Greek Marian hymn composed by St. Nectarios (of Aegina) of the Greek Orthodox Church. As a Catholic, this was one of the first hymns that first drew me to explore the Orthodox Church. This hymn is paraliturgical, meaning it can only be used outside of liturgical services. The Simonopetra Monastery (an Eastern Orthodox monastery) notes that the hymn is used for the edification of individuals.
Here, I try out the first stanza. Any feedback or criticism is much appreciated!
Big thanks to my friend Matthew for his encouragement in making this video, go give my man’s insta a follow (@mateusz_janiak1)!
(Disclaimer: I mispronounced the g in “angélon” and “agiotéra”. It shouldn’t be pronounced as a j but g as in “gator.”)
