A beautiful interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Adagio (BWV 1001), performed on a remarkable instrument: Pepe Romero Jr. guitar no. 418.
This guitar is built with beautiful rosewood back and sides and a spruce soundboard, a timeless combination that delivers depth in the bass, warmth and color in the midrange, and sparkling clarity in the trebles. The resonance of rosewood blends with the transparency of spruce, creating a voice that sings with every touch of the strings.
The recording was captured with two stereo pairs of Nevaton MC-59C microphones — and Nevaton MC-59 Omni — to reflect both the direct sound of the guitar and the natural resonance of the room. This setup preserves the intimate details of the instrument while giving a sense of space, allowing the listener to hear the full richness of tone and overtones.
This performance highlights both the timeless beauty of Bach’s music and the artistry of Pepe Romero Jr., whose guitars are known for their responsiveness, character, and lyrical quality.
