The Role of Rope in the Fire Service | JobTlks Podcast S02E18

How many of us are “into” #rope? How often are we using it, and in what capacities? It’s a simple question that, at first, many might not raise their hands. When we think of rope in the #fire service, many initially default to thinking of highly #technical skills: rope rescue technician courses, the rigging of complex systems, highlines, high-angle rescue, and confined space rescue, to name a few.
But this week’s episode challenges those assertions and highlights that the effective use of a rope is one of the single most indispensable tools we have as firefighters, and we use it almost every day: from the newest members to the most highly qualified specialty teams. From the basics of ropes and knots, hauling lines and tools, self-rescue and bailout, and rapid intervention teams to simply securing objects or making our lives a little bit easier at the station, the #JobTlks team highlights the many applications in which rope enhances our ability to successfully conduct operations big and small.
