The elephants of Dasara Mysore are an integral part of the festivities, with a rich history and tradition dating back to the Wodeyar kings. Here's some information about the elephants:

Lead Elephant
*Captain Abhimanyu*: A 59-year-old elephant from the Mattigod elephant camp, Abhimanyu will lead the Jamboo Savari procession for the sixth time. He's known for his participation in rescuing over 300 wild elephants and 80 tigers.

Other Elephants
*Kaveri*: A 45-year-old elephant from the Dubare elephant camp, Kaveri has been participating in the Mysore Dasara procession for several years.
*Laxmi*: A 54-year-old elephant from the Balle elephant camp, Laxmi was previously a circus elephant and has been part of the Dasara celebrations since 2015.
*Bhima*: A 29-year-old elephant from the Mattigod elephant camp, Bhima has been participating in the Dasara celebrations since 2017.
*Ekalavya*: A massive elephant weighing around 5,150 pounds, Ekalavya is from the Mattigod elephant camp and is participating in his second Dasara.
*Dhananjaya*: A 45-year-old elephant from the Dubare elephant camp, Dhananjaya has been participating in Dasara for the last seven years.
*Mahendra*: A 42-year-old elephant from the Balle elephant camp, Mahendra has participated in four Dasara celebrations and has experience in elephant and tiger capturing operations ¹.

Selection and Training
The Forest Department selects the elephants based on their health, strength, personality, and gait.
The selected elephants undergo a 45-day training period before the Dasara celebrations.
The elephants are trained to walk along the Raja Patha route and participate in the Jamboo Savari procession.

Dasara Celebrations
The Dasara celebrations will begin on September 22 and culminate with the grand Jumboo Savari on October 2.
The first batch of nine elephants will arrive in Mysore on August 7, followed by a second batch of five to six elephants in the first week of September ²
