Interlake Steamship Company’s Stewart J Cort arrives in Milwaukee for her winter layup. Here, she will be repaired and readied for next shipping season in March when she will return to her normal route of hauling iron ore pellets from Duluth, Minnesota to Burns Harbor, Indiana. The Cort is the first 1,000 foot long vessel built for Great Lakes shipping service and the only one with her pilot house in the front. She was constructed in two different sections in 1972 and originally nicknamed “Stubby.” She originally sailed for Bethlehem Steel corporation before being sold to Interlake Steamship.
