When your employer illegally discriminates against you, they call the games & play to win. Even employers who aren't intentionally playing games could still make mistakes that end up harming you.
You want to try to work it out with your employer if possible, but watch your back! Don’t just blindly go along with whatever they say.
Read your employer's policies.
Think before you act.
Gather evidence of what's happening to you.
Ask tough questions.
When my boss refused to even discuss reasonable accommodation, I went to NASA management, to ask for help. No one helped me. The Diversity Manager, who could have, chose not to. I decided to fight back because I was disabled, and desperately needed to be reasonably accommodated. I filed a written request for reasonable accommodation and an EEOC claim against my boss.
Eventually I won my claim. It was a long, hard fight, and at times I felt like my boss and NASA were playing petty games with my career, my health & other parts of my life. NASA called the games and I had no choice but to play, using THEIR rules.
This video lays bare a few of the games that harm disabled employees and others. I won some & lost some. Whether I won or lost, I learned....and if YOU are in a similar position, the lessons I picked up along the way might help you think your way through YOUR workplace discrimination situation and stand up for your employment rights.
