FoodTechBangladesh | Centres of Excellence in action

Bangladesh’s aquaculture industry supports millions of livelihoods and supplies around 60% of the country’s protein, a vital pillar for rural food security. Through FoodTechBangladesh, we are working to make this sector more sustainable, efficient and resilient.

The partnership is establishing four sustainable Centres of Excellence (CoE) in Cox’s Bazar, Khulna, Mymensingh and Patuakhali. At these Centres of Excellence, the FoodTechBangladesh public–private partnership demonstrates best practices in modern, water-efficient and low-impact fish farming, while transferring practical know-how to fish breeders and farmers. By combining Dutch technology with Bangladeshi expertise on the ground, the centres serve as hubs for training and demonstration, strengthening technical capabilities, boosting productivity and driving sustainable growth in the aquaculture sector.

Key activities include:
24+ on-farm research trials to improve breeding and cultivation techniques
144+ demonstrations and workshops to show how modern aquaculture can be practical, data-driven and profitable
Training 800 farmers on-site at the Centres of Excellence
Supporting 1,000 farmers online through digital modules and the FoodTechBangladesh app, which tracks farm performance in real time.
