In this video I show the exact location of the MD1CS003 ECU on the Vauxhall Vivaro / Renault Trafic 1.5, along with the quickest and most reliable way to connect to it for reading and writing. If you’re working on these vans regularly, knowing the access point and the correct cable setup saves a lot of time.
This particular vehicle came in for a Stage 1 remap and speed limiter removal. The limiter wasn’t visible in diagnostics, didn’t clear with the remap, and remained even after OSCA dialled in. Eventually I found an aftermarket limiter box wired into the loom — which explained everything.
With hindsight, I probably could have checked for that earlier, but it’s a good reminder that these vans are becoming more common with add-on boxes fitted.
I used a bespoke Creative OBD cable for this job, which makes connecting to the MD1CS003 far simpler and avoids unnecessary dismantling. If you’re a tuner working on these ECUs, their custom cables are worth a look.
