In this talk, Temilolu discusses relations of Mental Illness in the African Context. Diving into the views of anxiety being incomprehensible unless classified as a paranormal activity, or ADHD disorder being unseen as a chronic issue but a mere act of laziness and inattentiveness.
In statistics, More than 21,490,540 people suffer from one mental disorder or the other in Africa, out of the 450 million people suffering from a global perspective. Temilolu further talks of how the absence of inefficient medical facilities, prejudice; discrimination, and use of indigenous methods in curing these disorders has contributed greatly to the rise of the problem.
Through this talk, he raises awareness for this critical issue for the betterment of humanity; our sanity, and our ability to sustain positive social development.
Temilolu Olamide Awofeso was born and bred in contemporary Lagos, Nigeria. Growing up with 1 sibling after the loss of his stepbrother, he nurtured himself in the arts from a tender age. At the age of 6, Temilolu was enrolled into a remedial arts school where he learned the fundamentals of painting, sculpting, writing and spoken word art. From 2008, he attended Greensprings School Lagos for 9 years where he fostered his creative, analytical nature further in English, Social Sciences and the arts. Through his education, he achieved several accreditations from various art programmes and competitions, such as the AISEN Visual Art Competition and the Nigerian Olympic Committee. Prior to this, he has also made amazing impact in public speaking through his constant role as a Student Speaker for Declamation Contests, Interschool Debates and Spoken Word Performances. Temilolu graduated from Greensprings in 2017 as the 10th Best Student in his Year Group. As a First Year Student in African Leadership Academy, Temilolu has made exceptional moves in the field of English and the arts through several performances and directed works, such as his Poetry Spoken Word at the Nigerian Consulate on the crippling nature of the Nigerian society to his comedic drama based on Feminism in An African Household. In ALA, he currently acts as a Student Blog Writer, fabricating articles based on student and staffulty life in ALA for the school and the wider world, while discussing other topics like Economics, Finance, Collaboration and Leadership. Temilolu has aspirations of writing for a global audience, revolutionizing the mass media and society and using the art of speaking, writing and Journalism to inform, to educate and develop governmental systems in society for the nearer future.
