Note: watch to the end of the video for intros to a bunch of effective color combos. I usually don't include this content in my pattern videos.
I developed the Bob Hopper in 2012 as a smaller counterpart to my GFA Hopper. Originally tied in size-14, and now expanded as the "Big Bob Hopper" to sizes 10 and 12, the "Bob" has never gained the popularity of the GFA, but those in the know use the Bob the vast majority of the time.
Probably 90% of my own fishing and guiding during the summer July through early October hopper season relies on the Bob Hopper in one size/color or another, versus all other hoppers.
Quick to tie, durable, buoyant enough in size-14 to float a size-16 nymph with a glass or light brass beadhead, or a size-18 tunghead, and easy to customize, I strongly encourage everybody watching this to spin up a few both in the pictured peach color and your own preferred hopper colors.
Do you tie and fish the Bob yourself, or have you fished it on a trip with Yellowstone Country Fly Fishing or one of the shops that stocks the pattern? Please comment with success stories! I'd love for this pattern to get more reach.
