Battling Strong FORCE 6-7 Winds… But Look at That Sky!

This episode we push ourselves and go out in a force 6-7.
The forecast was only set for a 4-5 However as soon as we left the marina the boat was heeling over without the sails up!!!
We have not been out in conditions like this before so were nervous to say the least. How much sail do we put up? What if the engine cuts out? Will we get back on our birth?
As you are aware we are still very new to sailing, but want to grow our experience and push ourselves to learn and overcome the worries... which we did.
We experienced gusts up to 35KTS and a sustained 24kts. One of the issues with the river is the disturbance the land creates.. one minute we have 15kts the next its 25. This is the scary part as we can be set for a number but with it doubling in literally seconds as gusts tend to do it can be quite alarming.
One thing the camera doesn't pick up is the water state, we had never seen the river like it with white caps lining the water and mini breaking waves.
We had a fantastic sail in the end and were very pleased we did it. It enabled us to feel a great deal of confidence in our boat and our own capabilities.
Just shows you have to push yourself out of your comfort zone!
