Se7en, released in 1995, stars Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt as detectives aiming to catch a serial killer who themes his killings around the seven deadly sins. Despite its disturbing subject matter, it did well both critically and commercially. Which shocked pretty much everyone involved. Why exactly did Se7en's success shock both the studio and critics? And what was it about Se7en that seemed to resonate with audiences?
