Leopard Sighting and Fishing in Tiger Territory by Nagarhole Tiger Reserve | India 005

Due to recent tiger attacks on humans, the safari in Nagarahole Tiger Reserve has been closed for several weeks. Though we came to Wayanad hoping to spot a tiger, we’ll (with utmost understanding) save that for the future. The attacks have sadly affected many people in the area, including farmers working near the forest edge and locals employed in forest and safari operations, many of whom have been temporarily suspended without pay.

Despite the closure of the Nagarahole safari, we traveled to Wayanad to look for birds and do some fishing. We had a great time fishing with local boys, who were incredibly kind in showing us their fishing spots upstream - thank you Saji ++. After a couple of days, we were also lucky to stumble upon a now good friend, Vaishak. Together, we traveled to Mudumalai Tiger Reserve for a safari. This was my very first safari ever. Although they had spotted a tiger the day before, we sadly didn’t see it. However, right before our safari ended, we heard the alarm calls of spotted deer - and out of the forest came a beautiful leopard. That means we’ve seen three leopards in India so far - amazing.
