I spent the day on Saturday with my wife in Metamora, Indiana at the annual Metamora Canal Days Festival. This is essentially a huge outdoor flea market that covers the entire town. People come from far and wide to this event that is held once a year.
The Whitewater Valley Railroad runs trains down from Connersville, Indiana with folks onboard that don`t want to deal with the traffic and get there via the train.
The Whitewater Valley runs on ex-New York Central tracks that I believe were abandoned or sold off during the Penn Central bankruptcy back in 1972ish. This is the 50th anniversary year for the railroad!
They have some very interesting rolling stock that is kept at the base of operations in Connersville. I hope to get up there one day and do a video from the place.
This video is more of a collage of various trains, sights and sounds from yesterday. I know it`s a little different than my usual gig, but I hope you enjoy it.
There is an old GE centercab that is ex-US Navy, and 2 of the only operating Lima switchers left today. Whitewater had the only one up until recently and now they have a second one that was previously used at ARMCO steel. I did not know they had that one running, so I was more than surprised when it came rolling into town!
There is also some video shot from inside the old grist mill in the center of town. They have demonstrations of this operation from time to time, but not on this day.
I also made a video showing the elaborate belting system in the basement of the mill showing how the power from the water wheel outside gets inside and to the grist wheels. This is really cool.
The rail that the trains run on was rolled in June of 1916!
