In this video I build a Screech Owl nesting box made of red cedar. Screech Owls are native to my part of Texas and are a great ally for protection against mice and other rodents that devastate my garden beds. I have seen them for several years now in my back yard and wanted to make sure they have a permanent area for them to raise their fledglings and continue to inhabit the area. The nesting box is 16 inches at the tallest point, 11.5 inches wide and 10 inches deep. The back plate is 24 inches and is how the box is screwed into the tree. The top flips open using a gate hinge for easy cleaning and has a one inch gap across the front at the top for ventilation. I also filled it about three inches with pine shavings as a nesting material.
