Nestling in a pine, beech and spruce forest not far between Besse and super-Besse in Auvergne, is a beautiful volcanic crater lake called Lac Pavin (Lake Pavin). It has an almost perfect circle with a diameter of 800 meters.
It's open all year round and access is for free! Created thousands of years ago from violent clashes of groundwater and lava, Pavin is the region’s deepest and most alluring lake. Its shimmering crystal waters – calm and inviting – are reminiscent of the Mediterranean along the calanques of Marseille.
The footpath surrounding the lake is perfect for a peaceful and very romantic hour-long walk!
