Green Mountain - North Cascades, Washington State

The historic Green Mountain Lookout is one of Washington's all-time finest hikes. From dense woods to wide-open meadows to panoramic views, it just doesn't get much better than this. The lookout was built in 1933 and used for many years as a fire lookout. In 1987, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Once on top, the views are world-class. Glacier Peak dominates the southern skyline, along with Mount Pugh, Sloan Peak, Del Campo, Three Fingers, White Chuck, Whitehorse, and many others. Mount Baker is visible to the north, along with the Sisters and the Ptarmigan Traverse group. There is lots of history surrounding this lookout; it took a special congressional and presidential act to be preserved. For us, there was no better place to relax and spend the first day of summer marveling at nature's wonders.
