In 2024, Save the Children piloted a Hunger Free Communities approach in three rural communities in Texas to address child food insecurity. Within a year, two coalitions implemented community-led strategies alongside school districts to fill the food gap for children during weekends and school breaks, which showed positive impacts on families. This session tells the story of how each community developed their coalition, gathered community data, then collaborated across diverse stakeholders to design and implement food security interventions. Lessons gathered from assessments of coalition growth, participant surveys, and qualitative interviews will be shared to advance understanding and growth for both community coalitions implementing strategies and organizations supporting communities using the HFC approach.
