When caring for a neurosurgical patient with an EVD, nurses should follow the described monitoring and troubleshooting techniques for optimal patient care. It is important to troubleshoot the EVD for basic malfunctions, however understand when to contact neurosurgery for unresolved mechanical malfunctions, acute exam change, or sustained elevated ICPs.
