Sterzing/Vipiteno is an Italian town in the province of Bolzano. It is located in the Wipptal Valley and the Isarco River flows through its historic center.
South of the main ridge of the Alps, with high glaciers and peaks within reach and impressive natural scenery for both summer and winter activities, lies Sterzing, Italy's northernmost town. Beautiful townhouses with characteristic bay windows line picturesque shopping streets with plenty of shops, restaurants and bars - in one of the most beautiful old towns in Italy. The alpine town of Vipiteno or Sterzing is located in the north of Italy in South Tyrol.

The symbol of Vipiten is the Zwölferturm clock tower, which is 46 meters high and stands in the center of the city and is a characteristic sign of the city, connecting the old city with the new since 1472. On a busy shopping street lined with colorful facades of medieval houses, you can explore the parts of the city that are worth seeing. Stroll past Gothic churches and art treasures, quiet squares and bustling inns. Would you like to climb up and admire Sterzing from above? The excursion mountain Rosskopf with its mountain hotel is located just a few minutes by cable car from the city center - so you can experience culture, gastronomy and hiking or skiing in one day.

Not far from the city are some of the most important and magnificent castles in South Tyrol. Schloss Wolfsthurn, the only Baroque castle in South Tyrol, is home to the Landesmuseum für Jagd und Fischerei. On a rocky hill not far from the city is the castle Burg Reifenstein, where you can visit at least ten completely preserved halls. Exactly opposite, just a little higher, stands the castle Schloss Sprechenstein with a distinctive and unmistakable appearance.

Sterzing also used to be an important mining town. The life of the miners who used to work in this area can be seen in the mining museum Bergbaumuseum, which can be found in the Ridnauntal valley a few kilometers away.

The Christmas market in the old mining town of Vipiteno is really something. Stalls with handmade creations and local foods such as bread, bacon, mulled wine or warm apple juice await you.
Sparkling fairy lights, delicate straw stars, Christmas trees of all sizes. The cities of Bolzano, Merano, Brixen, Bruneck and Vipiteno fulfill popular Advent traditions. Not only in their historic centers with the original South Tyrolean Christmas markets, but also outside of them.
