Ernie (Stephen Hancock) and Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) are surprised by the purple ceiling chosen by Annie (Doris Speed) and to find Alf (Bryan Mosley) still wallpapering the bedroom. Ray (Neville Buswell) is down in the dumps over Vicki (Clare Sutcliffe) leaving him. Ivy (Lynne Perrie) discovers her husband has been unfaithful and, with nowhere to go, she imposes herself on Elsie (Pat Phoenix) and Alan (Alan Browning). Despite their home being unfinished, the Bishops are happy to finally be alone.
