Welcome to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! 🇲🇾
The greater metropolitan area boasts a population of over 9 million people and it seems like all of them brought their foods, cultures, and religions with them, making this the most diverse city we've ever been to in Asia.
Visit a giant Hindu cave temple with us at Batu Caves, eat the food of South India right off of banana leaves, and walk through Brickfields, home to Little India.
Eat Nasi Lemak, a Malaysian staple and check out Petaling Street and China Town.
Witness the unbelievably huge crowds on New Year's Eve in Kuala Lumpur City Center! The Petronas Towers put on an amazing light show but the real entertainment was the tens of thousands of people in the streets. Traffic was unable to move and we were pressed shoulder to shoulder in a crowd of people that went on for blocks!! Fortunately the crowds eventually dispersed but the risk of a stampede felt pretty real.
The cultural and religious diversity of KL was such a surprise, highlighted by Hindu temples, mosques, and Taoist shrines, often all sharing one city block. It seems as if everyone lives harmoniously, despite their differences, and I think there was something we could all learn there. Enjoy!
