This video comes from a tape dated May through June 2000 and covers the BNSF around Chillicothe IL.
We start on a warm May evening and first see an eastbound stack train pulled by a pair of H2 Dash 9s and a patched SD75M. Another stack train follows with an all Warbonnet consist with a C40-8W, a 700 series Dash 9, a GP60M, and a B40-8W. Union Pacific makes an appearance with an eastbound behind two Dash 8s and a patched ex ConRail now NS C30-7.
A few days later, we got a phone call from my local fire chief cousin that a train derailed just east off of the Illinois River bridge. It was the M-GALCSX and it made a hell of a mess. The official report blamed a broken wheel, several other employees say it was excessive speed through a switch. It was impossible to get a close video but did what I could. Later that day, back in, Chillicothe, a Streator bound manifest passes behind patched ex ATSF SD40-2 6723, NS GP40 1383 (ex N&W same #) and NS ex ConRail B23-7 4034 (ConRail 1924). The M-GALGYI is next, pulled tonight by a CN GP40-2W and a CN SD40. A pair of ex ATSF SD40-2s, 6710 Santa Fe colors and another in H1, pull a westbound past the station trying to get enough speed to climb Edelstein Hill.
A few days later we see some action at West Chillicothe. An eastbound manifest is picking up a crew member and heads east while the M-IHBKCK makes a pick up of steel coil cars. After the eastbound clears, a westbound Z train makes a run for the hill with a colorful consist, BNSF 4700 leads an H1 Dash 9, patched ex ATSF SD40-2 6863 and BN SD40-2 7134. An eastbound Z train comes by in full dynamics behind a mostly ex ATSF consist. A Warbonnet Dash 9 leads an H2 Dash 9, and yellowbonnet B40-8 8628 and GP60s 8728 and 8739. The IHB train makes its final moves and departs under a cloud of smoke. SD60M 9248, GP60B 345, and H1 Dash 9 1122 are just enough to get this train to the tip of the hill. Later at the station, an M-GALGYI comes by behind an LMX B39-8E, GP60 8715, and a Quest Geep, looks like OSSX 4428. The last train is a rail train backing east by the station and stopping to pick up a couple MOW employees. BN green is on the head end today, SD40-2 7851 and SD60M 9208.
