Located in the Block C of the UBC Buchanan complex, there is this very cool old OTIS traction elevator. Despite having its buttons replaced, everything else is original, including the motor. And the motor is an AWESOME basement drive traction machine, and it sounds epic and spooky! The cab is original and rather beat up, which adds to the spookiness. And despite the button replacement, the indicator added does not even work! This does beg the question if this elevator originally had an indicator. It doesn't seem like it, but I cannot confirm this.
Unfortunately, this elevator has just been modernized by KONE. The mod started in June 2025 and ended in early October 2025. The new elevator is also really cool. Check out the new video here:
