This presentation was given in an honors class about social media and psychology. We were asked to present due to our background in the cult of Jehovah's Witnesses and our knowledge of the tactics used to manipulate people therein, as well as our sometimes unique perspective on social media due to our past lives as JWs.
This is a look at tactics used through the lens of life growing up as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, as well as through the well known book by George Orwell known as 1984. Students were assigned to listen to the podcast called This JW Life, episode 5 about the FOG and BITE models of cult operations. The podcast can be found at thisjwlife.com and episode 5 goes into detail about these models and how they apply to the cult.
At the end of the presentation we put up a list of the tactics used that people can look out for in other areas of life such as social media. We also had a great discussion with students that were curious about our lives.
