The active Akutan volcano is considered to be the 2nd most dangerous volcano in all of Alaska, only behind Mount Redoubt in the state. The reason is that during an eruption approximately 1600 years ago, large boulders of lava were thrown more than 7 miles away to where the modern town of Akutan is now situated. Thus, a similarly large eruption could cause a repeat of this scenario.
