1996 - 2002 GM 6.5L Diesel P0335 CKP CrankShaft Position Sensor Diagnosis & Repair (Chevy & GMC)

In this video we go over the diagnosis and repair for the most common cause of a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction. The Service Engine Soon (SES) lamp on the instrument cluster will be illuminated with this code. A Tech2 scan tool will be required for this repair, as the Top Dead Center (TDC) Offset (TDCO) must be relearned by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) when replacing this sensor. The crankshaft position sensor (CKP) is common to all 6.5L diesel engines across Chevrolet, GMC, Grumman Olson, Holden, and Hummer models for these 96 97 98 99 00 01 and 02 model years.

There is a significant amount of disassembly required to access the CKP sensor. The reason for this degree of disassembly is that the sensor has a very high probability of breaking off inside the engine block during removal. VERY HIGH PROBABILITY. So be prepared to perform all of the procedures I show you. The procedures that will be performed include:

DTC P0335 diagnosis and PCM circuit check with a digital multimeter (DMM)
Removal and reinstallation of the engine intake manifold shroud
Removal and reinstallation of the upper engine fan shroud
Removal and reinstallation of the engine serpentine belt
Removal and reinstallation of the engine fan and clutch assembly
Removal and reinstallation of the power steering pump pulley
Removal and reinstallation of the power steering pump and EVO harness
Removal and reinstallation of the auxiliary generator (if applicable)
Removal and reinstallation of the auxiliary generator idler pulley assembly (if applicable)
Removal / Extraction and replacement of the CKP sensor
Relearn of the TDC Offset with the PCM using GM Tech2 scan tool
