GoPro Kayaking RAW: Defereggenbach waterfall & tunnel section // Austria, Tirol

Waterfall Section
This section begins high up the valley at the last bridge crossing the river. The first kilometer is a bit scrappy until you reach the first drop, which can be scouted and portaged on river left. The second drop follows immediately afterward, also scoutable and portageable on the left. From there, the river flows into continuous Class IV, with the difficulty gradually easing over the final kilometer. Take out at a small wooden bridge, then follow trails and forest roads back up to the main road on the left.

Tunnel Section
This run starts at a bridge crossing the river from left to right. Put in just below the bridge and paddle through an easy first 500 meters – a perfect warm-up. The difficulty builds steadily until you reach the bridge that spans the river just after the tunnel. The action continues for about 1 km with consistent whitewater. In the final kilometer, the river calms down and the difficulty decreases. You can take out at the first bridge or continue downstream on mellow Class II.
