How do you explore? THE BEST THING TO DO IN CORON. Coron Island Ultimate Adventure Tour. We arranged our Coron Island Ultimate Adventure Tour at the Bacau Bay Resort. The price was 2,800 pesos per person inclusive of lunch with personal chef, entrance fees to sites, snorkeling set and pool towel and we paid an additional fee of 5,500 pesos for the private boat (that accommodates 1-8 people).
Siete Pecados also known as 7 islands. Siete comes from the Spanish word that means 7 and denotes the number of small limestone rock formation surrounding the snorkeling site. According to our Tour guide, back in the day there were 7 stubborn children all boys, they ran away from home and never came back. They were never been found. Suddenly, these 7 small islands appeared and they named them “siete pecados” meaning seven sinners. This is a nice snorkeling spot with lots of sea creatures to offer but the area is not that large. There are beautiful coral reefs, fish, sea urchins, and sea turtles. Beware of the strong current.
Kayangan is considered to be one of the cleanest lakes in the Philippines particularly in Coron. The lake has become the flagship of all Coron Island destinations. Kayangan Lake is owned and maintained by the Tagbanua, an indigenous tribe. Kayangan lake is surrounded by limestone cliffs. There is a hike of approximately 15 minutes before you witness the breathtaking beauty of the lake. There are lots of photo opportunities due to viewing deck provided for the tourists. Swimming and snorkeling are allowed. Otherwise, you can just float using a life vest. The underwater rock formations are visible because of the crystal clear water.
Skeleton Wreck​- Refers to the visible front of the ship that sank here in 1944. All that remains of this 25mm steel-hulled boat are the keel, ribs and stringers. As the wreck only lies in 5 to 22 meters of water, it is a great shallow dive and suitable for snorkeling and diving as it is surrounded by colorful fishes. You were like swimming inside a huge aquarium.
Twin Lagoon. These lagoons are surrounded by limestone cliffs. The water surrounding the twin lagoon is a combination of Freshwater and seawater. You could feel the cool temperature above and warm temperature below while swimming. Please bring your own water shoes to protect your feet from sharp rocks. Be prepared to swim through a small opening. It is deep but life jacket is provided through the tours. The first lagoon is usually for boat docking while the second lagoon is only accessible via a small crevice underneath rock during low tide and a ladder over the rock on high tide. Take a life jacket and just float and drift around to relax in the lagoon. We did not explore the second lagoon since we were really exhausted. We just enjoyed the mesmerizing beauty and serenity of the surrounding.
Barracuda Lake​was named Barracuda due to the discovery of a large barracuda fish skeleton in the depths of its waters. Like Kayangan Lake, Barracuda lake is composed of both salt and fresh water. Barracuda lake is known for unique dive because of its famous thermocline. The access is short but dangerous so be careful it’s really steep. The lake is nestled in a limestone crater. Swimming in the pristine water was truly magical as you could hear the birds chirping.
Let go to lunch. Our personal chef just left after preparing our food. Our lunch menu are: grilled fish, chicken inasal, grilled belly pork or liempo, ensaladang talong (eggplant salad) stuffed squid, seasonal fruits, purified water. They charge extra for beer and soda. You can also buy fresh coconut for 50 pesos.
In this Coron Island Ultimate Adventure Tour, We befriended our tour guide and the staff from the hotel. We asked them if they could take us to a local restaurant or carinderia for dinner and they were pleased. We also invited the tricycle driver that picked us up from the hotel. The carinderia owner prepared us sinigang na barracuda, 1 grilled fresh fish weighed 3 lbs, grilled belly pork, 2 grilled squids and 8 matambaka fried fish. including beers, and soda all for 1720 pesos.
