🛕 About Kashi Vishwanath Temple
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped here as Vishwanath, meaning “Ruler of the Universe.” The temple stands on the western bank of the River Ganga, in the heart of Varanasi (Banaras), Uttar Pradesh. This Jyotirlinga is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India – and many believe that a visit here liberates one from the cycle of life and death (moksha).
The temple we see today was rebuilt in 1780 by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore, after centuries of invasions and reconstructions. Its golden spire and dome were added later by Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab, who donated one ton of gold for the temple’s crown. Every corner of the temple complex radiates divine energy, reminding devotees that faith can never be destroyed – it only shines brighter through time.
Darshan Timings & Rituals
The temple opens early morning around 5:00 AM for the first Mangala Aarti, when the first light of dawn touches the golden shikhara. The day continues with several Aartis:
