Hilda (Jean Alexander) wants Stan (Bernard Youens) to take the day off for her birthday. Len (Peter Adamson) advises Elsie (Pat Phoenix) not to put pressure on Alan (Alan Browning) about the money. Ken (Bill Roache) is told by Mr. Perkins (Wensley Pithey) that Mrs. Bates (Barbara Knox) has made a complaint about him. Hilda suspects Stan is hiding something, only to learn he’s planned a surprise trip to Paris for her birthday. Len discovers Alan's ex-wife, Laura (Stella Tanner), lent him the money.
