We headed down Ayrshire way for this week's jaunt.
Firstly we get to the newer Dalquharran Castle. This structure was built in 1790 and was unroofed in the 1960s. This castle was so like Buchanan Castle, which we visited last year. I could have spent so much more time here but there was another older building to the south of it we had to get to.
So, we then walk down to the older Dalquharran Castle which has 1679 on the lintel over its doorway. Less could be explored within this building being far more of a ruin with doorways blocked by rubble.
Then we headed further south down the Ayrshire coast to visit Sawney Bean's Cave. I've been researching Anthropophagi, cannibals, in Scottish history and this was a must visit location for me. Looking at the map, obviously due to the steep descent to get to it, it looked like it was fairly close and easy to get to. Not. So. Much... It's quite a distance from the road and the descent is better done on your butt. Thanks to folk who were down there already I was able to gain access to the cave itself and get right in about it. It was only thanks to a couple who came down while I was there that I was able to get back up the way I'd come down. Not one for those with mobility or cardiac issues of any kind.
Music throughout by the wonderful Paul Burns:
The Bonnie Breast Knots
Jacobean Medley
Mhello Waltz
Scott Skinner's Compliments to Dr Macdonald
Abel Banks
Greysteil
