সোনাঝুরি হাট বা খোয়াই মেলা , যা শোনিবারের হাট নামেও পরিচিত, পশ্চিমবঙ্গের বীরভূম জেলার শান্তিনিকেতনে স্থানীয় কারিগরদের দ্বারা প্রতিষ্ঠিত একটি সাপ্তাহিক শনিবার বিকেলের বাজার ।
এই বাজারটি শাল, সোনাঝুরি এবং পিয়াল গাছের মাঝে অবস্থিত। এই প্রাকৃতিক পরিবেশ এর শান্ত, গ্রামীণ পরিবেশকে আরও বাড়িয়ে তোলে।
সোনাঝুরির আক্ষরিক অর্থ সোনার ফোঁটা, কারণ শীতকালে সোনাঝুরি গাছগুলি তাদের ছোট ছোট হলুদ ফুল ঝরে পড়ে এবং পুরো বনে সোনার ঝর্ণা ঝরে পড়ে বলে মনে হয়।
কবি রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের সময় খোয়াই মেলা শুরু হয়নি, কিন্তু তিনি সোনাঝুরি বন এবং খোয়াই নদীর অনন্য রূপের উপর ভিত্তি করে অনেক কবিতা এবং গান লিখেছিলেন।
Sonajhuri Haat or Khowai Mela, also known as Shonibar Haat, is a weekly Saturday afternoon market established by local artisans in Santiniketan, Birbhum district, West Bengal.
This market is situated amidst the shal, sonajhuri and piyal trees. This natural setting further enhances its tranquil, rural atmosphere.
Sonajhuri literally means golden drops, as the sonajhuri trees shed their small yellow flowers in winter and the entire forest seems to be covered in golden showers.
The Khowai Mela did not start during the time of poet Rabindranath Tagore, but he wrote many poems and songs based on the unique form of the Sonajhuri forest and the Khowai river.
