As artificial intelligence continues to transform the healthcare sector, this event addressed both the unprecedented opportunities and policy challenges this technological revolution brings forward.
Policymakers, researchers and R&D experts examined AI's current applications and potential uses throughout the healthcare lifecycle, from early-stage research to clinical delivery. These discussions were framed in the EU’s regulatory and innovation frameworks.
The event comes at a critical juncture, as major digital laws come into effect and the European Commission is prioritising the responsible development of AI in healthcare as a strategic objective.
The discussion first explored how the evolving regulatory landscape – such as the AI Act, Medical Devices Regulation, and European Health Data Space impact AI healthcare implementation. The event then focused on the path from research to scalable solutions, addressing concerns around trust and privacy for researchers, patients and clinicians, as well as other data challenges. The exchange culminated in a discussion on what defines an 'AI-ready' healthcare system.
Panellists worked to identify best practices and inspire ambitious policy recommendations, to ensure AI advances translate into more efficient healthcare systems, improved patient outcomes, and enhanced European competitiveness in this critical sector.
