Welcome back to The Davises Eat, our weekly live cooking show where we prepare a cocktail and dinner in about an hour. We want to show you how easy it is to cook from scratch while celebrating the incredible local ingredients we love here in Southern Illinois.
This week kicks off our 2026 cooking journey through PBS chef cookbooks, and we’re starting with a true classic: Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child. If you want simple French dinner ideas, tune in!
🥚 What We’re Cooking
We’ll show you how to make oeufs en cocotte at home using two variations of the recipe. These elegant little eggs are simple, comforting, and adaptable. You can eat these Julia Child inspired recipes for brunch, dinner, or anytime you want something a little special without the fuss.
To round out the meal, we’ll prepare:
A French bistro salad with a bright, simple vinaigrette made using a local vinegar shrub from Glaciers End
A quick tartine (open‑faced sandwich) on toasted French bâtard from the Neighborhood Co‑op, topped with creamy cheese and smoked salmon
🥃 Cocktail of the Week
We’re shaking up a Bourbon Sour with local bourbon from Big Muddy Brewery. The cocktail is a little sweet and a little tart and one we love to sip while we cook.
