Interesting facts about hedgehogs:
Hedgehogs have around 5000 to 8000 spines on their back
There are 15 different species of hedgehog in the world
Hedgehogs are nocturnal and sleep during the day
They hibernate for about 5-6 months from November to March/April
Hedgehogs are lactose intolerant and cannot tolerate milk
The spines are hollow and grow back
They hunt primarily using there hearing and smell
They erect their stings and curl up to defend against enemies.
‘Hedge’ comes from where they build their nests and ‘hog’ from the small snorting/grunting sound
