6880 BETTON GRANGE RETURNS TO TRAFFIC following REPAIRS! + DMU out and about on DRIVER TRAINING!

Today had been sidelined to film 60532 'Blue Peter' on one of it's inagural railtours post overhaul to Exeter, however sadly this has been postponed for now until September.

There was however another locomotive operating locally that peaked my interest, as 6880 ‘Betton Grange’ was back in traffic! As with all new things sometimes teething troubles are to be expected, and unfortunately, following on from the triumphant inaugural runs of 6880 ‘Betton Grange’ at the Gloucester & Warwickshire Railway, the loco has so far had a bit of a false start during its visit to the West Somerset Railway!

It was discovered that she had a mechanical failure and had to limp to Minehead sheds for repairs -    • A FAILED GRANGE! 6880 ‘Betton Grange’ take...  

Engineers had to dismantle and remove the locomotives chimney as well as a lot of internal components from the smoke box to enable them to gain access to the offending gasket, before reassembling everything once investigations were complete, a process we see happening at the beginning of the video during the WSR 150 event.    • OLDEST WORKING STEAM LOCO celebrates WEST ...  

Today the locomotive was BACK IN ACTION and took charge of two round trips starting with the 10.00am off Minehead, and we follow the Grange working along the line, back in traffic following repairs! The crew were carefully monitoring her performance on scheduled services between Minehead - Bishops Lydeard throughout the day as she once again steamed through Somerset, and all being well will star at this weekends GWR 4-6-0 gala alongside the Hall and Manors!

We also see the DMU on a test run ahead of next weekends WSRA Norton Rally, conducting driver refreshers, 6990 ‘Witherslack Hall’ in action on passenger services and some shunting action at Minehead amongst lots of other things happening today at the West Somerset Railway!
