This video walks you through the process of creating an ambient occlusion texture using projection mapping in 3DStudio Max.
Have you ever been dissatisfied with the quality of your AO pass in Zbrush? Here's an alternative. Using renter-to-texture, you can project a level 7 head onto a level 1 head and capture the results using Mental Ray ambient occlusion. The results are better than what you get out of zbrush.
