If Carlsberg did railway stations they would all be in the mould of Garsdale - tiny perfection with stunning scenery and friendly locals.
Today, for the first time in many a month, I was back at Garsdale. I didn't have anything in particular in mind, but thought I'd try my luck seeing a few red squirrels, perhaps the logs and the weekday 6K05 engineers train from Carlisle N.Y. to Crewe Basford Hall.
I only succeeded in seeing 6K05, but was in for a rare treat when I discovered the train was double-headed by two of Direct Rail Service's finest locomotives, 37425 "Concrete Bob" and 37401 "Mary Queen of Scots".
The train came into view crossing Dandry Mire viaduct and the locos gave a throaty roar as they ascended the bank to Garsdale.
A short time later a southbound Northern Sprinter called on its journey from Carlisle to Leeds.
