"The Genomics of Human Personality"
For centuries, we have known that personality traits tend to "run in the family," but until recently researchers have struggled to link measured sequences of DNA with individual differences in personality. I will present forthcoming results from an international consortium collaboration spanning 46 samples and over 1.14 million genotyped participants that overhauls our knowledge of the molecular genetic architecture of human personality with a highly-powered genome-wide association study. We test the robustness of genetic effects on personality, the extent to which genetic signal is confounded by environmental factors, patterns of gene expression, and personality genetics' relevance to other major outcomes. Our findings indicate that the genetics of personality have widespread, potentially causal associations with health, wealth, work, and love.
