"Adal Sugoy Sugoy"
Adal Sugoy-sugoy is a dance performs at the highlands or mountains area, which the Dulangan Manobo live. Including in the municipality of Kalamansig and Lebak, Sultan Kudarat and other neighbouring municipality.
Sugoy-sugoy means giving thanks to their “Nemula” God, for a good harvest. The Dulangan Manobo conducts Sugoy-sugoy before harvesting time. They offer chicken to show gratitude and thanksgiving for the bountiful harvest they have received. The Adal Sugoy-sugoy is one way of oblation thing for their anchestors who passed away already. During the Sugoy-sugoy they also ask permission to the nymph they believed in.
According to our informants, in their beliefs, by means of this dance you’ll receive tons blessings and good harvest because of the guidance of “Nemula”. It was danced before and after of the harvest time.
Adal Sugoy-sugoy is usually accompanied by the indigenous instrument called “Togo”. On the other hand, before they begin to dance they prepare handkerchief placed at the center and they put a ma-ma in it then when the Togo begin to play they start to dance. The dance is compose of either 5 or more than persons, and during the dance there is only one person at the center and she begin to pick a mixed ma-ma for offering and begin to speak in their language praying and giving thanks for all the blessings that came in their life.
Adal sugoy-sugoy was performed by the “Bliyan” their babaylan or healer, they danced it with harp of prayers and chants asking dispensation to guide and bless them during the ritual.
