Imphal Talkies

Imphal Talkies is a folk rock band from Manipur, formed in 2008 by Akhu Chingangbam. The band has released five albums so far, "Tidim Road", "When The Home Is Burning", "Maria and the Flower Child" and "Ema gi Wari". One self-titled album was also released which is a compilation of all the singles that the band has produced over the years.
The band’s name is taken from a cinema theatre back home, Imphal, that used to screen ‘A’ rated movies.
The band is known for its political songs and representing the minority communities in India through its music. Akhu Chingangbam, has collaborated with British electronica act Asian Dub Foundation for the television series The Dewarists of Star World.
The band was chosen as one of the 33 bands from 33 countries for the music album compilation entitled “Album of the Revolution” released in UK by Un-convention and In Place of War. The band's single “Eche” and “Fake Encounter” were used by Amnesty International India as part of their campaigns.
