Crafting Shevitsa: Ръкоделница по везба

Shevitsa (or шевица in Bulgarian) is the name for the hand embroidered and woven ornaments on clothing and home textiles by the women of Bulgaria. These elements were not a simple decoration but had specific symbolism and purpose. They functioned as amulets to bring health, strength, long life to the wearer, healthy children. They could also display one's home region and social status.

New: I started an Etsy shop for embroidery patterns inspired by shevitsa. In them I transform folk designs striving to keep the traditional meaning while organizing it or adding to it in a way that turns it into wall art.
