Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look and installing the etrailer Invisible Base Plate with removable arms on a 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Your base plate is gonna be one of five main components required for flat towing a vehicle. It also has the hookup points for some of the other components. So let's go through those. The first one is going to be the base plate, which attaches to the frame of the vehicle creating a mounting point for your tow bar to attach. And your tow bar is going to go and attach to the removable arms that go on your base plate and become the connecting point between the towed vehicle and the hitch on the RV.
Now you also have your safety chain loops here and you're gonna run your safety cables just in case of an accidental disconnect you're still going to be hooked into the hitch on the RV. Now we also have our supplemental braking system which is going to allow the vehicle to slow and stop when you apply the brakes on the RV. You also have a breakaway cable here that's gonna attach to the hitch on the RV so that way if a catastrophic, you know, separation happens it's gonna pull that pin and put the brakes on the vehicle and that way it's not rolling down the highway, it's gonna bring it to a stop. Now your diode wiring is going to transmit your light sequence from your RV to the back of your towed vehicle letting people know what you're going to accomplish. And a lot of times that diode wiring is gonna tie into that braking system.
We also added a charge line to ours and it all goes to this 6 pole. Then you're gonna have your umbilical that goes to the 7-way on your RV. Taking a closer look at our base plate you can see that the only portion that you really see protruding is gonna be our removable arm portion with our safety chain loops kind of here. So little bit of trimming required to allow that to fit but overall it looks pretty cool on the Jeep. And then you know, it just adds a little toughness to the front so it doesn't really take away from the look of the vehicle.
It also has a nice bracket that's included that uses the factory screws. It makes it really easy to get your 6-pole wiring all mounted up and that bracket's included. Now when you are ready to hook up to your tow bar, pretty easy here, you're just gonna slide this in, rotate it and then you can put your pin in place and you're ready to go. Now this style of adapter arm here is going to work with etrailer and Demco style tow bars, but not to worry, just because you have the etrailer baseplate does not mean you can't get adapters to adapt to a Roadmaster style or any other style of tow bar. Now overall, installation's pretty easy on this.
In fact, most of the Jeep base plates are pretty simple. You're gonna take your front bumper off and you're gonna utilize some of the factory hardware to get it mounted up but there's no drilling or cutting except for your plastic that's required. And really you can knock this out I would say about hour and a half, two hours. Now when getting your air dam back in place it can get a little bit tight and you do have to bend some of the tabs. I also noticed that it is putting stress here a little bit so it kind of rubs against that. But really overall it's not too bad and the finished product looks really good. Now our installation's gonna begin with removing two of the plastic push pins that we find here on the top between the bumper and the front grill. Now throughout the entire process you do want to have a nice organized place to keep all of your hardware because if you're setting up your base plate, chances are you're gonna want to get the rest of your flat tow components in at the same time. And so this bumper may be off for a little bit and just to keep yourself organized and have that hardware to go back on, having it organized is going to make it that much easier. So we're gonna see that it is in a recessed portion here. And if you need to you can rotate this to be able to get a flathead screwdriver or a trim panel tool and you're just gonna wanna pry in where those slots are on the center portion. And once you get that to kind of pry up a little bit makes it a lot easier to get the rest of that plastic push pin out. So just kind of work at it here and we should be able to get these pulled out with that center section
