The Choleren Gorge near Adelboden in the Bernese Oberland is a wild, 100-meter-long rocky gorge known for its impressive waterfalls, water mills, and eroded rocks.
Winter closure: The Choleren Gorge is closed during the winter months. The path leads through the gorge via numerous stairs and footbridges, which are not maintained in winter and may pose a risk of avalanches or rockfalls.
Season: The gorge is usually only accessible from May to October.
Impressive water spectacle: The Tschentebach stream rushes through the narrow passages of the gorge and has carved fascinating shapes into the rock over thousands of years.
Well developed: The entire gorge is accessible via safe stairs, bridges, and footbridges, allowing visitors to experience nature up close when it is open.
Combination with Pochtenkessel: A visit to the Cholerenschlucht gorge can be ideally combined with a visit to the nearby Pochtenkessel. There, the Engstlige and Otterebach streams converge in a deep rock funnel.
Hiking options: There is a popular, easy circular hike (approx. 1.5 hours, 4 km) from Adelboden through the Cholerenschlucht gorge to the Pochtenkessel and back.
How to get there: The starting point can be reached on foot or by bus from Adelboden village. Free parking is also available at the Tregel car park.
Admission: Admission to the gorge is free.
Check status: Before visiting, always consult the official hiking and ski report for Adelboden-Lenk to check opening hours and accessibility.
