I didn’t like the shape of my large jade plant (Crassula ovata), primarily because of the long boring trunk, so I cut the top off, which I plan to root as a large cutting. I’m confident this will work, although it still made me nervous.
I share a key tip about successfully rooting large jade cuttings: let the cut dry before watering, or else you risk rot. After the big cut, I let it dry for three days. I then planted it in dry bonsai substrate, which I won’t water for at least another week.
Another tip: Don’t use your nice kitchen knife for bonsai, or you might get in trouble.
