On Thursday 13 November 2014, The Rail Motor Society operated a tour for the ARHS NSW division into Victoria visiting Benalla before running to Oaklands and return. This was the second passenger train on the Oaklands branch following gauge conversion in 2009.
This video follows the rail motor from Glenrowan on the North East line to Oaklands via Benalla and return to Wangaratta.
402 was built in 1938 and the general design of the body was based on the Silver City Comet power cars. It underwent a number of modifications over the years, including the fitting of twin 6-71 diesel engines in the late 1950's.
They were mostly used on country branch line services with the 500 class trailer cars until withdrawal in 1983. 402 was then acquired by The Rail Motor Society who leased it to the rail authorities for radio testing. More recently it has returned to tourist service such as this trip.
