Heel Strike Running Causes Hamstring Injury as Compared with Forefoot Running

Another reason heel strike running is bad for injury prevention is that it increases the risk of hamstring injury! This is because at heel strike, the knee is often fully unbent which stretches the hamstrings beyond maximum tension. Another problem with this is this happens during the touchdown phase of running, where the collisional force and the compressive wave are very high! In contrast, landing-forefoot (forefoot strike) while running naturally causes the knee to flex (bend) at touchdown, which not only reduces compressive impact on the hamstring, but prevents them which stops the hamstrings from exceeding stretch force threshold.
