Member's Fave: Octima, Cavelossim, South Goa, May 2024

Hi guys, today we’re going to Mobor-Cavelossim. Our channel member Michael Mawlong has told us that there’s a place there called Octima which also has nice Goan food and we’re very happy to hear that because usually Mobor-Cavelossim only has places which have only the kind of food which tourists like, especially the international tourists

Octima Restaurant, Bar and Cafe is located walking distance from the Cavelossim market, just off the Dabolim-Cavelossim road in Salcette, South Goa. At Haathi Mahal hotel in Cavelossim market, the road curves right towards Mobor. Just when you reach Novotel Dona Sylvia resort, you will see the left turn with signs for Mike’s Place, and also for Octima. Turn left and follow this road till the end. It is best to go on bikes as the lane is very narrow.

Octima restaurant is entirely outdoors, in the garden of a house. It has more tables during the season. It’s a jolly setting among the many green and flowering plants

Lesley is going to try the fish curry rice because it’s the mark of good Goan food. Roma is very excited to try the pork dish and Maria will have Goan roast beef.

Costs we paid: Prawns thali Rs 350, pork chop rechead Rs 420, beef roast Rs 350, bebinca with ice cream Rs 200, caramel pudding Rs 200

This is a family-run eatery. One has to wait patiently for the food. So go with nice company like we did

Lesley's prawns curry rice thali has a big bowl of teesrio, mixed bhaji, papor, prawn curry, sal kari, gulab jamun, salad, 6 big rawa fried prawns, pickle and rice.

Roma got a very nice big size pork chop with plenty of meat. The red rechead masala looks awesome

Maria's Goan beef roast was served the traditional way, with potato and onion

The fried prawns were just superb and also the prawn curry. The beef was soft. The pork chop was tasty, but the meat was slightly tough

The teesri was different from what we usually have, and very nice

For dessert we tried the bebinca with ice cream and caramel custard. Roma was not too impressed with the caramel custard but liked the bebinca and ice cream

Thanks Michael very much for the tip. Because of you, we went and enjoyed Goan food

If people in Cavelossim get tired of having all the Continental food in all the tourist places, and they want to know what really Goan food is like, go to Octima. It’s really nice
